How To: Clean Your Make Up Brushes

Tools you need to clean your  make up brushes:
  • Your Make-up Brushes
  • Brush Cleansing Palette (Mine is from Real Techniques)
  • Brush Cleanser (I use baby shampoo and MAC brush cleanser)

Now you have everything you need - pop into your bathroom and get ready to make your brushes sparkle!

It is really important to regularly clean your make-up brushes as they can attract bacteria and with the product build up can stop the brushes working as well as they should. I would recommend cleaning your brushes once a week - and if you use brushes/make-up products on your friends or clients then you need to clean your brushes after each use.
There are so many brands out there on the market which sell both the palettes to clean your brushes and also the brush cleansers themselves and I have tried SO many and have discovered my favourite two - one a cheap alternative and one slighty higher-end.

Stage 1 - apply cleansing product into
palette - this is baby shampoo.

Stage 2 - swirl your brush dependant
on the size of the bristles into the palette
to remove excess product

Stage 3 - use luke-warm running water
to clean the palette and add more
brush cleanser

Stage 4: squeeze the bristles to
ensure all of the make-up and product
 is out
of the brush
(if it is still full of product - repeat from stage 1)

What do you use to clean your brushes?
How often do you clean your brushes?

My favourite is the baby shampoo it lathers up SUPER quick and ensures all of the product is removed. Lay your brushes at an angle for them to try to hold their shape - or pop them into a brush belt or stand like the one above to allow them to dry.

  2. I've literally used baby shampoo forever and I adore the smell of it and how soft my brushes/ sponges turn out after using it. But I may have to try that mac cleanser though I usually just use my hands so will also have to invest in that palette, looks easy and effortless!
