Decorating our first Christmas tree in our first home & I'm back BLOGGING!! ♡

Hey everyone!!! I am so excited to be back blogging, just in time for the festivities to begin. I have so much to catch you all up on, my last blog post was back in May (wow - 6 months ago!) and it was a glow up post lockdown. I think, like many of us, getting back to some sort of normality took a lot of getting used to, seeing family and friends again, having days out and in that process we also moved into our first home together in July - so we've been focusing for the past few months on making it a home and now we're all settled, I've realised just how much I've missed sitting down and typing a blog post to speak to you all, I hope you've missed me too! I have had lot's of requests to start up again. So, I thought - what better post to do than to show you how we decorated our first ever Christmas tree (I know we are early - we actually put it up LAST WEEKEND) and our living room. I'm so pleased with how it looks and I've had lot's of messages asking where things are from - so I thought I could share that in this post, incase you are looking for inspiration too. Lot's and lot's of posts coming your way - including christmas gift guides yay!

First up - the star of the show - is of course of CHIRSTMAS TREE!! I saw someone post that last year they really struggled to get hold of a Christmas tree as sometimes they can sell out which caused a little bit of fear (in a good way) as I managed to convince Tom to let us order one in advance whilst we were still in November and because we were excited to get it up, we have put it up early too. I honestly didn't know where to start, what size do you buy? do you get a real tree or a fake tree? I've always had a fake tree at home, but over the past couple of years his family have had a real one and even though they look beautiful as soon as I spotted ours online at Asda I instantly knew it was the one. So let me give you the details of our tree which cost £50 and it is called 6ft Pre-Lit Snowy Pine Christmas Tree. It comes in a box (obviously Em, but it's not huge either so it'll be easy to store away!) and the tree comes in three parts, all labelled too, and ours is pre-lit which means no fussing over detangling lights each year. You may call me lazy, or a genius for this idea, when I go back to help my Mum do her tree next month it's a task I won't be looking forward too after being able to put ours up with such ease. You then just need to connect the lights in at the middle and it's all operated via one plug and it honestly looks absolutely beautiful! We are so pleased. Feel free to share where you've got yours from too so others can get more inspiration! I had so many questions across my social media when I shared our free asking for the link, so I thought I'd share it on here for you all as well - you can see the name of it below too. But here's a link for you here. Since we brought our tree, I've seen lot's of different tree's many shops some a lot more expensive. This is the first Christmas tree we've ever brought so I can't really compare it, but we have shown both our parents and asked for their opinion and they love it and said it's amazing quality for the price - it really does look breathtakingly beautiful!

Next up, let's talk decorations - again, another decision that needs to be made. Do you buy tinsel? what theme shall we go for? do you put a star or an angel on top of the tree? do you buy packs of baubles? do you, like myself, decide you want all except for a few to be individual *this was an expensive way of doing it* however, for our first tree I knew it would be costly as we had to buy everything for the tree, including the tree itself! We did both decide against tinsel this year which now the tree is up and decorated I think it was a fab idea - I really debated to put tinsel on, but the more tree pictures I looked at for inspiration, I liked how it looked without. I also asked on Instagram where was good to buy decorations from and I had a range of suggestions which I'll list to help you as well - the range, home bargains, b&m, wilkinsons, garden centres were the main ones that consistently came up! We got all ours from The Range & Wilko's! I'm going to share photo's of all of the Christmas baubles, bow's and decorations we got - including our star topper below and I'll share which ones were from the range, and which were from wilkos.

Gold flower decoration - so sorry, I've looked but cannot find this on the website!
Hanging penguin decoration - £0.89p - linked here
Pack of 6 decorative gold hearts - £0.49 - linked here
Metalic glass hanging heart - £1.49 - linked here
Gold flower decoration - I found these in one of the baskets along the christmas isle but sadly cannot find these on the website to link - so for these items, possibly try in your local stores!

We also picked up three other items from The Range to decorate our lounge. We firstly got a stag lantern which we thought was absolutely beautiful and now sits on our coffee table. It was a really reasonable price too for just £7.99 - I will link it here for you. We also got a woodland tea light holder which we've placed on our TV stand (would look perfect by a fire place too, I can just imagine where I'd put it at my family home) again really reasonably priced this was just £4.99 and I will link it here for you. Lastly, we brought some lights to go in our window (which you've seen on the first photo) they have multiple different settings and these were definitely under £10 - I can't find the exact ones we've got but they have a wide variety to choose from in store and online so definitely check out the range if you're looking for some. Since we've brought our decorations we have looked in other shops - and I can honestly say I think (certainly for the decorations we were looking for) Wilkinson's and The Range have the best range of decorations that I've seen all year. Please do share your favourite places for decorations in the comments.

And there we have it, my first blog post since 6 months ago - I promise I'll never go that long without blogging again and the start of the Christmas posts. I hope you've enjoyed this - I've also shared a close up picture of our tree and decorations so you can see how it all come together above. I'd also love to know - do you have your tree and decorations up yet? if so, what theme have you gone for? We have one decoration to collect from Tom's parents when they get their decorations down, which is a personalised bauble I brought for our first Christmas together back in 2014 with our names on and the date. I'm thinking of getting another persoanlised one this year, to celebrate our first Christmas in our home. What do you think? Did anyone else do this? I just love how they hold a special memory to look back on. Take care and stay safe everyone. Look forward to catching up with you all in my next post.
